AI procurement diagnostics vs. traditional spend analytics platforms
An AI procurement diagnostic and a spend analytics platform answer different questions. A diagnostic takes a one-off data export and returns a sized opportunity assessment. A spend analytics platform is an ongoing system, connected to ERP and procurement data, that reports on spend continuously. ValueChaser is a diagnostic.
Analysis is generated in minutes, with completed client diagnostics available within 24 hours.
Side by side
| AI procurement diagnostic (ValueChaser) | Spend analytics platform | |
|---|---|---|
| Question it answers | Where are the savings in this dataset, how large are they and how should we approach them? | What is our spend doing over time, and are we on track? |
| Input | An AP or spend export in Excel or CSV | Integrations with ERP, procurement and other source systems |
| Implementation | None. A file is uploaded. | An implementation project with data integration |
| Time to first output | Minutes for a self-serve run, within 24 hours when our team runs it | Depends on the integration scope |
| Output | Report, Excel savings model, categorized dataset and negotiation playbooks | Dashboards, recurring reports and savings tracking |
| Typical user | Consulting teams, PE operating teams and procurement leaders who need a fact base | Procurement organizations managing spend as an ongoing process |
| Commercial model | $900 per report, or a monthly unlimited plan | Typically a subscription sized to the organization |
What spend analytics platforms do that a diagnostic does not
Spend analytics platforms such as Sievo, SpendHQ and Simfoni, and the analytics modules in suites such as Coupa and SAP Ariba, are typically built for continuous use. They typically refresh data on a schedule, give many users dashboard access, track realized savings against targets and connect to sourcing and contract workflows. ValueChaser does not do these things. It is a point-in-time diagnostic run on a data export.
What a diagnostic does that a platform is not designed for
- One-off datasets. A consultant with a single client AP extract, or a deal team with a data room export, can get a categorized spend cube and a sized savings assessment without an implementation.
- Speed to a first fact base. The analytical foundation is ready before the first client or value-creation meeting.
- Repeatability across companies. The same diagnostic structure runs on each client or portfolio company, so results can be compared.
- Sized actions, not only visibility. Savings are sized by category and supplier on a realism ladder, with negotiation playbooks for priority categories.
How the two fit together
They are not alternatives for the same job. A diagnostic can establish the opportunity before a platform decision, or cover companies where a platform is not justified. The categorized dataset is delivered as a CSV that can be imported into an ERP or procurement system.
Diagnostic versus internal analysts with ChatGPT or Claude
A general chat model can label spend lines, but it has no fixed taxonomy, records no method or confidence for each row, and can give different results on a rerun. Large files do not fit in one prompt, so the same vendor can be classified differently across chunks. ValueChaser uses deterministic methods first and a model only for the residual. Each row carries its method and confidence, and model output is constrained to valid taxonomy nodes. This is described in how raw spend gets categorized.

Frequently asked questions
Is an AI procurement diagnostic an alternative to hiring a consulting firm for a savings diagnostic?
It produces the analytical foundation a first-pass savings diagnostic needs: the categorized spend, the concentration analysis and sized opportunities. Judgment, client context and final recommendations stay with the practitioner. Many users are consultants who run it on client data.
Does ValueChaser replace a spend analytics platform?
No. It does not provide continuous monitoring, dashboards for ongoing use or savings tracking. It provides a point-in-time diagnostic from a data export.
Can the output feed an existing ERP or procurement system?
Yes. The categorized dataset is a CSV with category codes and normalized supplier names that can be imported into other systems.
What data does a diagnostic need?
An AP or spend export with a supplier name, an amount and an indication of what was bought on each line. 12 to 36 months is the recommended window.
How fast is a diagnostic?
Analysis is generated in minutes, with completed client diagnostics available within 24 hours. Run it yourself and the report arrives in minutes. When our team runs your data for you, the completed diagnostic is delivered within 24 hours.
